Alec goes Spanish

BLACKWELL speedster Alec Wright was the fastest British rider at his first race in the CMV 125GP Spanish Championship.

The 18-year-old finished 22nd out of 46 riders in the first race in Catalunya - an impressive feat as most of his opponents were operating with more powerful machinery.

Wright, who had an impressive season in the British Superbikes 125GP series last year, is taking part in two championships in Spain this season.

As well as competing in the CMV 125GP series, he is preparing himself for the prestigious CEV 125GP Spanish Championship - a major step up towards world level.

His first race in the CEV 125GP championship takes place in Valencia next month.

Wright, who represents the Replicast Racing team, said: "The CEV is the one below world level.

"All of the world level teams are there looking for riders to bring through.

"To even qualify out there is a major step."

As he faces a step up in class, Wright is hoping to upgrade his Honda motorbike to the more powerful Aprilia in attempt to keep up with his rivals.

He is seeking sponsorship so that he can continue his rapid progress.
