A TALENTED young Rubery band are hoping to get signed up - the prize they are competing for in a national competition.

Punk indie band Silent Riot are made up of brothers Luke, aged 18, and John Hassan, 14, with 18-year-old Jonathan Jones, known as JJ, and Zac Esposito, 14.

The band, who formed in 2005 as Wasted, won the regional heat of the Live and Unsigned talent search at the Civic Hall, in Wolverhampton.

They now move onto the Midlands heat in April.

If successful they could then take part in the national finals in London where they will battle it out for a recording contract and the chance to tour with an established artist. The band, who play only their own music and no covers, have played at a variety of unsigned artists' gigs, including at the Bar Academy, in Birmingham, and recently won a battle of the bands competition at Waseley Hills High School.

It started out for them as a bit of fun, but they have become more and more professional. It is a great achievement for a couple of kids from Rubery.”

Peter Hassan, Luke and John's proud father, said: "It started out for them as a bit of fun, but they have become more and more professional. It is a great achievement for a couple of kids from Rubery."

The band are also hoping to do a charity gig in aid of a fundraising trek for the British Heart Foundation which is being completed by Zac's uncle, Donato Esposito, founder of the Bostin' clothing chain, in May.
