FIREFIGHTERS from Bromsgrove were called to Sidemoor and Rockhill over the Bank Holiday weekend.Crews extinguished a small quantity of rubbish which was on fire at King George Close play area, at 6.28pm last Sunday. On Bank Holiday Monday, firefighters went out just after 10pm to extinguish a scooter that was on fire in Fox Lane. No one was injured in either incident.

Rail service upgrade

BROMSGROVE and Droitwich rail users could see an improved service following Network Rail's announcement of investment in the infrastructure. The investment will lead to work starting in July and August, which includes the development of Bromsgrove station, and possible plans to electrify the cross city line. Work will also begin on fitting an additional interim signal on the Hereford to Birmingham line, via Droitwich. The changes should see an improvement in reliability and allow for increased capacity.

VISITORS to Avoncroft Museum in Bromsgrove will hope for a couple of windy days when the Stoke Heath tourist attraction joins in the National Open Mills Weekend this Saturday and Sunday. Avoncroft's Danzey Green Post Windmill is the only working windmill in Worcestershire. Visitors in the morning will see how the windmill is moved and the sails set, then find out how grain is ground into flour.

PUPILS from a town school will swap their classroom for a trip to County Hall tomorrow (Thursday, May 8). Eight children from Finstall First School - which has Eco School Status - will make the visit, which will see them meet the chairman of the council, Councillor John Smith. The nine and ten-year-olds will also be given the chance to experience a full council meeting. The special visit will be rounded off with a tour of the boiler room at County Hall in Worcester which houses a wood chip burner that uses renewable energy resources.
